Salcombe Regatta Time is Here

The Yacht Club Regatta has gone well again this year with reasonable weather and light/moderate winds.

Everything is now set fair for the Town Regatta which starts on 8th August with a Fun Run at 8.30 am followed by Parachuting Teddies at 12.00 noon.
Other fun on the opening day includes a family water treasure hunt, a punch and Judy show and a raft race at 5.30 pm.
From 6.30 pm there will be pavement drawing in Island Street.

Monday’s activities include a land Treasure Hunt, a Mud Race, Fancy Dress parade, crab catching at Victoria Quay (for children up to 9 years) – and also at Victoria Quay - one of the highlights of the week the Greasy Pole competition at 6.00 pm.

More fun at Victoria Quay on Tuesday with crab catching for competitors aged 10 – 16 years (adults crab catching is on Wednesday) Followed by more Greasy Pole antics.

Watch or take part in the events on Victoria Quay right outside our Salcombe cottage.

The Harbour Swim on Wednesday is always very popular; numbers increase every year. It is an early start at 7.45 am. Last year was a very misty start but it didn’t deter anyone – many of the competitors braving the water without a wet suit. This is the only time in the year when swimming across the estuary is allowed. The marshals restrict all the traffic on the water for the period of the race to ensure there are no accidents.

One of the favourite events takes place on Thursday with a water torchlight procession followed by a firework display at 10.00 pm.
