Christmas and New Year in Salcombe

Christmas and New Year is a magical time of year in Salcombe. The village sparkles with Christmas lights and the pubs are bursting with atmosphere and seasonal cheer. We recommend the Victoria, the Fortesque, the Kings Arms and the Ferry, in fact all of the pubs in and around Salcombe give a fabulous Christmas welcome. Why not walk down to the South Sands Hotel for a more formal meal or to the Winking Prawn for lunch adjacent to the beach. We often have mild weather and this picture was taken on Boxing Day last year!

We love singing carols around the Christmas tree at Whitestrand. This year the service takes place on Sunday 21st December at 6pm with mulled wine and mince pies.

The Christingle service at Holy Trinity Church is on Christmas Eve at 3pm and Midnight Mass starts at 11.30. On Christmas Day the Family Communion starts at 10am.

As a family we love to join our friends from South Pool for a game of rounders on the beach on Boxing Day and we love walking at this time of year either along the lanes to the Millbrook Inn at South Pool or on the coastal path to Gara Rock.

We rarely leave Salcombe, other than on foot; over the Christmas period but if you do fancy something different there are lots of festive events at Dartington Hall including a screening of the Nutcracker in the 14th century barn cinema on 20th December.

It’s been another wonderful year at the cottage; for 2016 we have made some decorative improvements, recently painting downstairs and replacing the carpets and we are very excited about the launch of our new website and you will also find us now on social media! Please follow us on Twitter and Facebook for regular updates about the cottage and what’s happening in Salcombe.

We wish you a very happy Christmas and a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year!
